Have You Considered His Majesty?

The Coming King, the Roaring Chorus, and the Only Right Response

“To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood and made us a kingdom, priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him and all tribes will wail on account of Him. Even so, Amen. I am the Alpha and Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come.” Revelation 1:5b-8

“Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice worthy is the lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing. And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them saying, to Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessings and honor and glory and might forever and ever. And the four living creatures said, ‘Amen!’ and the elders fell down and worshiped.”  Revelation 5:11-14

Wow!!! As I was reading the first six chapters of the book of The Revelation a few days ago, the majesty of Jesus leaped off the pages at me. The first phrase that grabbed me was: “He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him.”  When’s the last time you dwelt on this reality? Today we live in a world where people mock Him, belittle Him, and ignore Him, but there is soon coming a day when His beauty and majesty will be revealed to the entire world. Those who have rejected Him will mourn at His coming. Those of us who know Him, love Him, and have been redeemed by His blood will explode with joy and relief when we see His beautiful face. I can’t wait for that glorious day!

As I continued to read and reached chapter five, I saw a vivid account of what is happening right now around the throne of God. There, John saw living creatures, elders, and angels in numbers that could not be counted, worshiping our God. Myriad simply means ten thousand. Myriads of myriads literally means 10,000 x 10,000, which equals 100 million. Used like this in the Bible, it indicates a number so large that it is incalculable. Thousands of thousands means multiplied by thousands, which again points to vast, uncountable multitudes. Perhaps billions or trillions, or maybe a number that we have never even been able to contemplate as humans, of beings are at all times worshipping God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We have nothing to even compare this to in our world. And to think, He loves us, knows us, and forgives us! His majesty makes the most powerful leaders on earth look like nothing. They will all bow at His feet someday.

I have no words to describe the feelings I have right now as I think about His majesty, power, and graciousness. As I contemplate who He is and who I am, I am deeply humbled to think that He knows my name and gave His life for me and all of you. I know I’m not worthy of any of His kindness and grace, but I’m so thankful that this most awesome being has extended love and mercy to me. There’s really only one appropriate response to His grace and love, total devotion to Him. Is Christ the greatest love of your heart today? Jesus, please make it so in all of our lives!
