Making West Virginia a Beacon of Hope

Making West Virginia a Beacon of Hope

Many former West Virginians have fled our state for alleged greener pastures over the decades. Those of us who have decided to stay should be thankful for one another and intentionally work together to make West Virginia better than ever. Many great things have happened in recent years for which we can be appreciative, but with concerted efforts we must believe that the best is yet to come.

There is a predictable pathway that many Christian conservatives in West Virginia are seeking to follow which will improve the quality of living in our state while preserving our rich heritage. It is unnecessary to run from our history as an energy state while making people and businesses thirsty for a good life in the mountain state. Ronald Reagan firmly believed and often declared that God intended America to be a beacon of hope, faith, freedom, and democracy — “a city on the hill.” We West Virginians can and must effectively coordinate our efforts so that we can continue to grow together as a strong and bright beacon of hope for future generations.

The ultimate hope for success in our midst is found in our people establishing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This will make it possible for both legislative leaders and their constituents to find God’s will and then do it with His provision, protection, and blessings of prosperity. If our residents are to enjoy the peace of God, then peace with God must first be experienced. We need God’s blessings to enjoy true success.

Voters need to be informed as to which candidates are worthy of their vote irrespective of their campaign rhetoric or party affiliation. Readers should seek to accurately identify elected officials from local boards of education, city councils, county commissions, judges, constitutional officers, and the state legislature who are motivated by serving the Lord and addressing community needs. It is imperative that reliable and principled leaders be elected because so much of the direction of our local communities, cities, and state is determined without the voter’s personal involvement. We do not need people of questionable integrity or corrupt practices in positions of power. One must only look at the current state of national politics to see how far American politicians have caused America to drift from her constitutional roots. West Virginia can become the envy of not only surrounding states but the whole country as we place godly men and women into positions of leadership to guide us in the pathway of God’s best blessings.

Reagan was right to state that God intended America to be a beacon of hope, faith, freedom, and democracy — “a city on the hill.”  It is up to us to elect the appropriate leaders, do our collective best to keep the wonderful in West Virginia, and make our state a good place to live, work, play, serve, and retire.
