What are the most comforting words to you in the Bible?

When you call out to God and pray, what do you want to hear?

    Try these -  “Be still and know that I am God”; in WV terms “relax, I’ve got this”.

Human nature is to feel safe when we are in control but we “people” have limited control over a limited number of things.

Presidents and Kings have always deluded themselves with ego driven power and think they can control the outcome but history has recorded that delusion as an illusion. Only God has total power which means that only He has full control

About 250 years ago, King George of England thought that because (a) his army was 10 to 1 larger than that of 13 colonies, (b) his navy was largest in the world compared to no navy for the colonies, (c) his industrial power and financial power was the greatest in the world compared to very limited in the colonies, that he could control the colonial rebels. The US victory made no logical sense just like Gideon’s victory of a 300 man army over 135,000  Midianites and Amalekites.

Many Americans at the time viewed independence as requiring Divine Providence. Washington himself frequently referred to “Providence,” and numerous colonial leaders believed victory would be impossible without God’s intervention.

John Adams later wrote that the Revolution succeeded through “the General Principles of Christianity in which all the Sects were united” and a conviction that truth and liberty was worth extraordinary sacrifice".

People, families, armies, countries, businesses--those that interfere in God’s plans always lose. Job said it at the end of his “discussion” with God. “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you.” Job 42.2

We all know about people in the Bible who tried to prioritize their own plans and interfere with God’s plans.

Pharaoh: God sent the ten plagues, Israel was delivered, and Pharaoh’s army was destroyed in the Red Sea.

Saul: Saul died, and David became king exactly as God had promised.

Haman: Haman was executed on the very gallows he prepared, and the Jews were delivered.

Peter’s attempted to interfere in God redemptive plan for Jesus and Jesus saying “Get thee behind me, Satan…” (Matthew 16:23 KJV). Peter was an apostle who Jesus used to build His church but at one time satan used Peter to try to tempt Jesus into interfering and deviating from God’s plan. When a person’s character radically changes from good to bad, you can expect satan to be involved.

But how about good old Bible thumping, Jesus Following people who are called by God to do what He created them to do? Most of those also try to interfere with God because we want our own timeline and not His. We think and often say “God, You promised it so make it happen NOW”

““Be still, and know that I am God!“ Psalms‬ ‭46‬:‭10‬. The Hebrew translation רָפָה (raphah) means more than being quiet. It carries the idea of:

* Stop striving.

* Let go.

* Cease fighting.

* Release your grip.

In modern language, God is saying: “Stop trying to control everything. Remember who I AM. I’ve got this.”

God is not telling His people to be lazy. He is telling them:

  1. Do what I have clearly commanded

  2. Don’t put a stopwatch on God to do what He promised

  3. Stop trying to force the outcome.

  4. Trust Me with what only I can do.

Moses at the Red Sea, Jehoshaphat before battle, David waiting on the throne, and Mary at Jesus’ feet while Martha was scurrying around, all learned the same lesson:

Faith often means standing still long enough to watch God work.

My daughter's favorite song is “Jesus take the wheel”.

Jesus, take the wheel

Take it from my hands

'Cause I can't do this on my own

I'm letting go

So give me one more chance

And save me from this road I'm on

Jesus, take the wheel
